Although an image can be transformed in a number of ways, pure warping involves mapping points to points without altering the colors. Any function from (part of) the plane to the plane can be used to calculate this. The original can be reconstructed if the function is injective. Any image can be inversely transformed if the function is a bijection. Forward mapping is the most obvious method of converting a digital image. This method applies the transform directly to the source image, resulting in unevenly spaced points that must be interpolated to produce the appropriate regularly spaced pixels.
